
Co-founder of Soul Menace, one of the brains behind the Jakarta’s hip-hop night scene. One of the very first Hip-Hop DJ that inspires most of today’s local DJs that comes after him. Spinning professionally since early 1997 after his return from studies in Toronto, CA.
Long years of staying in North America gave him the proper knowledge about the Hip-Hop game and it was imminent that he would apply everything he learns in his hometown, Jakarta and the time couldn’t been more impeccable.
As the Jakarta night scene was monopolized by “House music” at the time, the introduction of Hip-Hop music all night long in a club was found to be something new, fresh and exciting. DJ D quickly gained his own followers and opened the market for Hip-Hop lovers and listeners. To empower the erupted movement, DJ D and the rest of the founders formed ‘Soul Menace’ a production based and focused on the music and what’s around it. Together with his crew exploring Clubs in Jakarta, Bandung, Bali in legendary spots like Parkit, BC Bar, Indigo, Bar 69, sharing influences, knowledge, taste and visions, gaining followers and opening doors for local Hip-Hop talents to rise.
Continuing on his musical journey, he explores his musical taste further and put in more dimensions in his set by playing a more soulful House, maintaining his roots by keeping it funky, groovy with jazz and vocal elements. He was a regular for Embassy’s ‘Mashed Potato’, the 5 star rated ‘Burgundy’ in Grand Hyatt Hotel and a permanent resident for Soul Menace’s Rewind in Blowfish also ‘House of Soul’ in Dragonfly. Urban music movement in Indonesia was built by many reasons and DJ D’s presence was a crucial one.
